Kimberton Coffee Porter....on tap at Sly Fox Phoenixsville location

Appearance-dark black brown, large brown tan head which sticks around, seems thick for a porter, attractive beer.

Smell-whole coffee beans, touch of alcohol, more coffee, maybe some sugar.

Taste/Mouthfeel-lots of coffee upfront and throughout, light to medium mouthfeel, huge flavor for such a light brew, the alcohol is completely hidden, nice smoothness throughout, finishes with one last dash of coffee.

Drinkability-not alcoholic, very flavorful.

Overall-quite a triumph, nice coffee flavor, easy drinking, enjoyable throughout, definitely worth your time to try.

On tap @ the Sly Fox Brewing Company (Phoenixville, PA) on 12/20/10. Served in a 10 oz Pils glass.

Pours a deep clear amber, topped with a very thin covering of off-white (which is bordering on light mocha) creamy head. This retains at about the same level, throwing a foamy cascade of lacing up, which quickly slides back down the sides of the glass. The aroma smells of fresh coffee grounds, having a certain amount of pungency to them but are still quite flavorful and lush in the nose. There is a sweet and tangy malt presence in the back, along with a touch of hop activity, but the coffee just completely dominates this. This is about as robust of a aroma that you'll find on a coffee beer.

Wow, this tastes just like fresh brewed coffee. This doesn't exactly blast off in the mouth though like some others do but instead lets the flavor slowly seep out across the palate. This is just so roasted and flavorful, with just a touch of astringency to it. I think that the malts play a big part for the more mellowed feel of the coffee, with a fairly prominent mix of cocoa and caramel giving a lot of balancing sweetness across the back. Earthy bitterness adds an extra layer of flavor here and in turn helps even out the sweetness. This is all coffee in the finish, with a dry and roasted character that hangs on the breath after each sip. Them mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a lively and prickly to the carbonation, which dots the tongue with flavor but is more creamy on the edges, helping this go down rather easily.

Wow, really nice take on a coffee-infused beer here and while it maybe wasn't as in-your-face as some, this was still exceptionally robust and flavorful with a flavor profile that fit in perfectly with the Porter style that they went with here. Really tasty stuff and I'll definitely be checking out the Kimberton Coffee Roasters next time we're in the area.

On tap for the Sly Fox 15th Anniversary event on 12/10/10.

A - Clear medium brown body with dense tan foam on top that reduced to a patchy veil and spotty lacing.

S - The porter boasts a really fresh, authentic coffee aroma with a hint of nuttiness and chocolate notes.

T - Opens with a moderate roasted character right off the bat paired with a fresh ground coffee flavor and hint of chocolate. Finishes with a mild nutty astringency and faint earthy hop bitterness.

M - The oiliness of the coffee bean is apparent right away! Mouthfeel is light with mild carbonation and a hint of bristle on the tastebuds. Finishes with mild astringency and a touch of bitterness on the palate.

D - What a way to get our anniversary brunch started! This was a delicious porter brimming with an authentic coffee flavor and aroma.

Infused with a locally roasted blend made for the popular Phoenixville restaurant Majolica by Kimberton Coffee Roasters.

A-Deep, dark, brilliantly clear, brownish copper with a medium tan head that diminished to a thin cap and left spotty lacing.

S-Wonderful, straight up rich, roasted dark coffee aroma with little else interfering. Yes, the aroma is one dimensional but it is very intoxicating.

T-Lightly sweet malt melds beautifully with the acidic bitterness of the dark roasted coffee. Upon warming becomes slightly woody and quite dry.

M-Medium-light body with a sharp bitter bite and nice lingering coffee flavour.

D-Damn fine stuff. I think I am going to have to track this coffee down to see what the straight up product is like. Great coffee flavour in a low ABV and highly drinkable brew. You had best like coffee though or this one is not for you.
