LOOK: Dark brown brew with a mocha cream foam that leaves plenty of lace and lasts a good while. Looks like a solid porter.

SMELL: Aroma of roast, nuts, chocolate, coffee and sugary malt.

TASTE: In the taste, roasted malt upfront with a faint smokey note that gives way to milk chocolates. There is a small complimentary bitterness, but this is a mostly roasty, chocolatey affair with a mild presence of coffee.

FEEL: Medium bodied, well carbonated, good thick feel and goes down smoothly and easily.

OVERALL: A tasty porter here from Sly Fox brewing based out of Pottstown, PA. Certainly a great beer to have more than one of in a sitting.

tap at special tasting

Pours dark brown with an eggshell head.

Smells a bit smokey with some chocolate and dry hop character.

Tastes mildly toasty with some dark fruit malt sweetness and some mild hop bitterness.

Medium body with light carbonation.

Pretty delicious, an enjoyable porter, would definitely have this again.

very dark, but obviously clear brown, almost black. Very large tan head graced the top, eventually faded down to just a slight ring around the outside of the glass. No glass lace and little carbonation,.Smell very sweet, lots of caramel and roasted coffee, a touch of chocolate perhaps. Very nice light feel. Good carbonation kept it feeling alive and allowed the flavors to really pop. Nice burnt caramel sugar and a touch of chocolate. Very nice dry piney hopped finish. Very drinkable, in fact I had alot more of this alot quicker then I intended to. Overall a really great bee

Picked up a growler at Sly Fox Royersford Saturday night and enjoyed on Sunday afternoon.

Poured into my Great Divide Brussels glass.

Beer pours a dark black, almost opaque with about two fingers of off white head. The head retention was minimal, but it did recede into some attractive lacing.

Smell is off roasted malts, earthy, musty coffee and dark chocolate. Taste is bold and assertive. It's full bodied and roasty with a strong chocolate note. There is also some hoppiness to round out a delicious porter.

As I said, the beer is full bodied and thick in terms of mouthfeel. As for drinkability, it's off the charts for a porter. I would love to regularly drink Pughtown Porter on these cold Pennsylvania winter nights. A great porter.

Enjoyed a five beer sampler of 4 oz, Michelin Man style glasses, beers.

This was the fourth beer of the sampler.

Described as robust and generously hopped with black and chocolate malts.

Very dark brown in color (not black). Light tan head.

Well balanced. Good flavor coming from the black and chocolate malt. Nothing overwhelming on aroma. A fine mild flavor finish. Not "robust" in my book but very well done.

I enjoy a good porter, and this one definitely fits the bill. I like my porters to have a vanilla characteristic. This has it. Noticeable ruby in the color should have given this trait away.

Roastiness from the chocolate malt is present though. Nice mixture. That prevents this beer from being cloyingly sweet.

I'd be very interested to try a cask version of this beer.
