Nice combination of the two styles. Taste is candied sugar, banana, caramel, toasted malt, and dark bread. A malt bomb that is a sipper. I will look for this again on tap.

Enjoyed at the tasting room in Pottstown, PA

A: half finger head on a cloudy deep amber with slight golden hue body. Nice lacing.

S: The aroma is almost nonexistent. Mostly caramel malts.

T: lots of candy sugar and toffee throughout this one finishing with a very nice caramel malt sweetness. Spices and herbs are mild but you can search them out. The hefeweizen qualities come late in the finish with wheat and generic citrus rounding this one out.

M: medium body and moderate carbonation.

Overall: I have not had a beer like this before. Definitely an interesting one to try.

On-tap at the 2012 Goat Races!

A - Served with a dark copper body that had caramel tinted highlights...the head was one finger tall and fell to a broken cap...some decent lacing was left behind

S - The spice level is very high...lots of clove, lingering nutmeg, all spice, and cinnamon...fleshy banana...a lot of yeast, too

T - Again, the hefe part of the beer really dominates (which isn't a bad thing)...the spices are present, but not overpowering as they were in the nose...the clove shines and mixes well with the banana...they create almost a freshly baked banana bread aroma...the yeast is very present in the middle, adding body...the sweet malts do not come out until the beer has a chance to warm up...and then they only appear towards the finish

M - Medium bodied...smooth, not overly spicy on the finish

O - I was excited to try this one when I saw it on the board...the hefe flavors definitely stand out more than the dopplebock, but again that's not a problem if you can handle the spices...the ABV doesn't come through on the palate but it will sneak up on you

Served in a stein, beer is amber and hazy with a thin white head, no lacing, low retention. Overlal looks good.

Aroma is very banana-y. Very strong, a nice aroma for sure.

Beer is medium in body, sweet up front, more bock-esque in the palate than in the nose. The banana is still present and good. I really enjoyed this beer. Interesting and really nice. I'd have it again.

Well, I too had this beer for the first time at the 2012 Sly Fox Bock Fest. It sounded interesting, so I tried it. Poured from tap into my Sly Fox mug.

A: A medium amber orange color with a one finger white head. Not much lacing.

S: Spicy as hell! Clove, banana, some sweetness.

T: Wow, the clove on this beer is crazy. It's way more hefeweizen than dopplebock, that's for sure. Clove up front that is real spicy. it gets mixed with the banana and malt to get some slight grainy flavors, but the dopplebock flavors never get a chance to come out in full. Hay, clove, banana come back to finish out the beer that the spice stays forever in your mouth. A bit too much?

M: Fairly light actually for the abv, no alcohol and the flavors linger.

O: A decent beer, but honestly the clove flavors started to wear on me. Enjoyable, but nothing I could have more than one or two of. Still, glad I tried it.
