Burns' Scottish ale has a dark body and a small tan head that leaves spots of lacing behind.

The aroma has just a touch of earthy hops, the rest is all malt. Toffee, a bit of roasted malt, a bit of smoke and some nuttiness.

The flavor is what I would expect from the aroma. Sweet caramel and toffee mix with a slight nuttiness, with a bit of bitterness in the background. A hint of smoke and a moderate roasted malt come next, with a little bit of earthy hops in the finish.

Fairly light body, but not bad.

I love getting to try all of the Sly Fox one-offs here in Ithaca, and this is no exception. Nice beer.

On the hand-pump at Al's of Hampden...

A - A rich warm medium brown color... No head and only a very minimalist splotchy veil of lace...

S - Caramel... Toffee... Diacytel... Toasted malts... A vague nuttiness... Sweet, but far from either over powering or cloying...

T - Caramel... Nuttiness... Toasted malts... A touch of molasses... Butterscotch... A hint of smokiness...

M - On the lighter side of medium bodied... Smooth... Sleek... Slighlty lush... Minimal carbonation...

D - Quaffable... Sessionable... Easy drinking... A simple straight forward and enjoyable Scottish Ale...

One of the best Scotch Ales outside of the imports. Had on their annual Burns Day celebration.

A luxurious head even from the hand-pump. A deep ruby-brown with copper highlights.

The aroma is toasted-malts, nutty and only slightly hop-bitter.

The flavor is multi-layered peat smoke, crisp nutty malts with a lingering sweetness. There is only a slight amount of bitterness that resonates on the tongue as you drink down the glass.

The mouthfeel is full and smooth for a relatively low-impact alcohol level. It is highly drinkable.

A: Clear brown-red witha 2 finger off-white head that clings to the glass the entire way down.

S: Roasted malts, a faint hint of smoke, and earthy smells, grass, dirt, etc.

T: Smoke is more prevalent in the taste, sweet roasted malts, pine, grass, and some very light hints of chocolate.

M: Smooth but not that creamy and a clean, crisp bitter finish.

D: This is a sessionable beer for sure especially in the cooler momths. Something that I would and have ordered a few of.

Draught in Phoenixville: This one pours a clear, light brown color. It had a small white head. The aroma was a bit light, but still pleasant. Notes of malts and a touch peppery. The taste is a bit dry. Some roastiness and malt taste. A touch peppery also. A decent quaff.

Sly Fox- Burn's Scottish Ale

Appearance- Nice golden amber with a sticky/ lacing head.
Smell- Smokey moss.
Taste- Immediate smokey moss, vanilla malt, and a light roasted coffee with a slight hint of cream.
Mouthfeel- Velvety smooth and flavorful up front. Finishing off dry with a slight touch of bitterness.

Overall- This was good! I'm not a Scottish Ale fan but I could drink this 1 all night!

Thin, off-white head off the pour, this beer was quite clear and a chestnut brown colour. A bit of spotty lacing throughout. Very malty aroma with a bit of roast, nuts and toffee. Mild bitterness with plenty of caramel malt sweetness and faint earthy hops. Toffee and nuts come out towards the end, followed by a bit of chocolate and roast in the finish. Off-dry with a medium/light body and moderate, creamy carbonation. A nice session beer, very quaffable, with flavours that become fuller as it warms.

This beer came an brownish amber with orange highlights that was slightly cloudy with a thin dirty tan creamy head. Smelled of dirty dry corn, a bit of smoke and a sweet doughy yeast. Tasted of dry crisp corn that blended into a pungent sourness with light overtones of molasses. Mouth feel was medium bodied with a crisp light carbonation. This is a nice understated beer that’s easy to drink.

My friend from The Abbaye brought a growler of this to the superbowl party yesterday. Nice treat. Slightly sweet malt nose. Initialy a nice off white head on the pour leaves a decent persistant lace and sheen on the brew. Brownish dark ruby in color. Tastes quite rich and sweet with a touch of smoke left on the tongue. Quite drinkable and medium smoothish mouth. A beer that you would want a few of..

Strange. There are two Scottish Ales listed for SF. Robbie and Burns. The beer I had tonight was Robbie Burns Scotch ale. I believe it was 5% abv. I think all three are all the same. Me, myself and I will review...

This poured out a deep amber-red color. Nice creamy head of foam. The aroma is subdued, with just a hint of sweet malts. This is a very light and drinkable Scotch Ale. Taste is semi sweet with a pleasant finish. Decent, medium body of malt. I didn’t detect much of the common smokiness that’s attributed to the style, but a nice light version. Highly drinkable.
