12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a pretty, semi-cloudy, deep, golden color with a quarter of finger of white-colored head that quickly dissolved away into a thin lacing of foam that almost completely covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Very aromatic with tons of piney hops aromas up front. Very grassy and piney. There’s a touch of honey and caramel as well as a touch of toasted malt, but the predominate aroma is hops.

Taste: Similar to the aroma. Lots of grassy, piney, semi-bitter hops up front, followed by some caramel-like sweetness, a good amount of toasted malt, finished by more piney hops. Surprisingly quite good, even though there’s a lot of hops.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and crisp and pretty effervescent as there is quite a bit of carbonation. With an ABV of 5.8%, there is no alcohol on the palate.

Overall: I’m not a hop head at all, and frankly I’m not a hop fan at all. Most beers which feature a predominate amount of hops, such as most IPAs and American pale ales, I flat out don’t like…except for this beer. This beer, surprisingly because it has a lot of hops, I like! Even though there is a lot of hops, this beer isn’t that bitter, rather, it’s more grassy than bitter. It’s good! Non-hop heads should not be afraid to try it, as, they might like it! Another great beer from Devils Backbone, my favorite Virginian brewery!

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. 5/13

Pours hazy light copper, some foam on top. Fruity bright hop nose. A little grapefruit. Strong hoppy bitter flavor. Juicy and fruity buried below a powerful bitter. Tasty.

Very nice pale ale, consistent and flavorful.

Wow! I did a blind rating, and came up with the same numbers as the first reviewer.

Golden yellow against my screen, but more of a dull orange against my walls. Lightly hazy. 2 1/2 finger white head that recedes rather quickly leaving interesting lacing. No carbonation bubbles after the first few minutes.

Impressive aroma. Both fruity and piney with a background of sweet malt. Tropical fruit and over ripe citrus.

Lightly sweet and citric upfront followed by some herbal hops. Finish is bitter and tart.

Fairly light in body. Slightly crisp and drying. Moderately warming.

A great summer beer! Refreshing and tasty. on a warm summer night, and worth repeating.
