A: Clear, dark red-brown color, with a thin head of golden brown foam that quickly dissipates.
S: Lots of dark fruit aroma, including raisins (of course!) and fig, some dark bread, a perfumy aroma I can't quite place, and a strong hint of alcohol.
T: A lot of sweetness up front - it's a bit cloying, but it is a barleywine, after all. Raisins play a big role, as expected. There's a little orange, then grapefruit. A hint of sweet tobacco. The finish is a tad bitter, but I can't tell if it's from the hops, or acrid, dark-kilned grains.
M: Perfectlyly carbonated, but just a little too boozy.
O: A solid barleywine, but not really a standout in the field. It's nice for sipping while relaxing in the evening - it's more warming than refreshing. Considering their brewery is next to a ski resort, this makes sense to have as part of their winter line-up.
