Champagne and IPAs. You’d think these two libations would have nothing to do with each other, but we thought we’d join ‘em in hoppy matrimony. Brut IPA is very light bodied with a clean, dry palate thanks to lively citrus and white grape notes from Amarillo and Hallertau Blanc hops, plus a bit of malts. It’s bubbly, sparkly, low carb, hoppy… and heck, elegant. Drink with an open mind and we’re sure you’ll love this extra pale wonder.

Malts: Pilsner, Malted Wheat, Acidulated Malt
Hops: Amarillo, Hallertau Blanc, Simcoe
IBU: 26
COLOR: Extra Pale

From the can, it pours a clear amber with a modest head that soon dissipates to just about nothing. In the nose, it is citrus and a bit of malt. In the mouth, it is also citrus and yet a bit dry.

CANother one with a small hiccup! I was all ready to go until I got onto this site & realized that an approved pic did NOT exist! 8=( A central tenet of The CANQuest (tm) is that NO CAN shall be Crack!ed & Glugged without an approved pic in place. Problem = solved!

From the CAN: "Dry, Delicate & Citrus Notes"; "Contains: Wheat"; "IBU[:] 26[;] Color[:] Extra Pale".

The Crack!ing open of the vent led to some foaming action so I allowed it a modicum of calming time. It revealed itself to be a brimful CAN with nowhere for the tongue to go upon insertion. 8=O I was really kind of taken aback when its color revealed itself to be Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4) with NE-quality clarity. 8=O I also got two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head in the bargain. Nose was pleasant, rather lemony, definitely citrusy. Mouthfeel was medium, at best. The taste was pleasant enough, rather citrusy in terms of its bitterness. Not bad, per se, but I just felt like I have had better examples in the style. Finish was dry and quite drinkable. I would not know quite what to tell them as far as how to improve it. It simply lacked Ooomph! where others in the style have soared. YMMV.

Poured into a grip shaped goblet: color is slightly hazy gold, head is bright white and presented a half glass full on the initial pour, a lot of residual carbonation in the glass and the head dissipates to thin top. Seems a bit too hazy and overcarbonated, even for the style.

Smell is off, I pick up savory/fruity blend which seems off, hard to describe but seems to be an interplay of the hops and very light malt backing. Not what I expected or have experienced from others of this style.

Taste follows and it just seems off or lacking. I know the style is dry and thin, but the selections of hop, barley, and wheat are just not coming together for me compared to others in the style i've tasted. Flavor is thin barley, hints of crackers, hops are similarly weak or lacking, but some citrus or grape like notes present.

Mouthfeel is well carbonated, somewhat biting, hard to believe this only has 20+ ibus but it must be the high carb rate.

Overall, this is not an enjoyable beer. With others in this style it reminds be of just a hoppy light beer with more barley, less rice or corn and this beer exudes that with poor hop selection and overcarbonation to a high degree.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a Dogfish Head tulip. Well within its 'best by' date.

L: Nearly clear light golden pour with massive foamy white head. Great retention and sticky lacing.

S: Light citrus and grains.

T/F: Super sweet up front... crackery grains give way to a not unpleasant citrus hop character. Not much bitterness... some pineapple and tangerine. There's an 'off' flavor that I can't really place but detracts from the brew. Creamy carbonation and smooth on the palate.

O: Not sure what this is... too sweet up front which is the opposite of what the style suggests. Some off flavor. I'm not a big fan of the style and this one is worse than most.

L: Clear straw color. Little head retention.

S: Hard to pull much out of this other than an off-scent that I can't quite place.

T: Mild citrus and an odd, almost savory note. Hard to describe, but it's not pleasant.

F: Light, very bubbly, probably refreshing under the right circumstances.

O: I'm not the biggest fan of this style to begin with, but this is the worst example of a brut IPA I've sampled.

The look, color, head and carbonation seemed right. The aroma smelled stale and old. The taste was semi-flat and there was an offputting old taste, possibly an older, past its prime beer?. Not a good example of this trendy beer.
