On tap at Devil's Backbone brewery. 6.5% abv, 22 IBUs.
Appearance: There's a slight haze in the orange amber body here, and tons of fast and very fine bubbles. The tan head still fades rather quickly and leaves minimal lacing (much like its predecessor), but it does leave a faint ring of lace.
Aroma: A little more pungent and malty than the previous version, understandably so. This one's more buttery and toasty, still heavy on the caramelized sugars but perhaps a little deeper as well.
Taste: Great malt profile on this one. Toffee dominates the palette, but caramel, toast, hints of maple syrup, and brown sugar steamroll a faint spicy hop profile. Very solid.
Mouthfeel: Medium bubbled and medium bodied, though the evenness is cut slightly by the sheer volume of crisp carbonation. Still very nice.
Drinkability: A step up, in my opinion, from the previous AoF. Is it too soon to abbreviate that one? Probably so. Regardless, the malts here are a little more complex and flavorful, aroma a little more hyped up ... that is to say, it's slightly more up my alley. A good winter brew.
