Growler courtesy of dkachur, split at the law school, of all places. I poured myself a good 30 cL into an Allagash cervoise, which I for whatever reason happened to have with my in my office.

Appearance: A robust, transparent copper bodied brew with an initial one-finger of good, foamy head that - although it doesn't stick around for too long - leaves some nice blobs of glittery lace.

Aroma: Estery and wonderfully malty. Spices - nutmeggish, peppery - and light, faintly citrusy, faintly floral hop notes, tons of stray phenols, cherries, pears.

Taste: Malts abound, toast, dark brown sugar, crystalline notes, maple syrup, Belgian waffles topped with blueberries ... though it's accompanied by lots of fruit, similar to the nose - cherries, currants, perhaps. Very active yeast strain on this one.

Mouthfeel: Incredibly even and smooth, with a mild and understated carbonation that cuts through whatever thickness might be imparted by the plentiful residual sugars in this one.

Drinkability: A winner, probably my favorite Devil's Backbone brew thus far. The Ale of Fergus (through its many incarnations) just keeps getting better. Keep up the evolution, boys.
