Bock Beer

We respect tradition at Devils Backbone, whether it’s the brewing process or styling of a beer. So, if it’s tradition to put a goat on a Maibock label, we put a goat on our Maibock label. This honey-colored, medium-bodied, traditional German-inspired Spring beer is brewed with a careful blend of malts and hops. The result is bready and full with a honey-like malt flavor. Perfect for people … and perhaps goats, too.

Malts: Pilsner, Vienna, Dark Munich, CaraRed, CaraFoam

From the bottle, it pours a nice clear amber with a modest white head that very slowly diminishes. Light malt in the nose. In the mouth, it is the same - malty and refreshing!

Poured from 12oz brown bottle into a clear glass mug.

Light amber with prodigious 2-3 finger white frothy head with good retention and lacing.

Grainy malty aroma with light spicy hop note. No hot alcohol.

Flavor is solid but a little too spicy in the hop Dept and a little too Munich heavy for my taste. Alcohol well-hidden and clean.

Highly, dangerously drinkable with medium body and low-medium carbonation.

A nice Maibock that just misses a little on the malt profile and hop note being a bit too prominent for me.

Existence is pain and so is drinking this beer. It was everything a good bock shouldn’t be. I almost never actually take time and rate/review a beer, but this was an exceltionally awful brew.

Here are the things I’d rather do than drink another one

Tongue carrot top’s asshole
Snort anthrax
Jerk off stephen hawking
Listen to william shatner sing Winger
Stick my junk in a tank of piranha
Be the man who put down harambe

12 oz bottle from Trader Joe's poured into a chalice.
L: Rich golden dark honey. Some streaming bubbles.
S/T: Sweet breadiness. Not as rich or nuanced or separated as a doppelbock, but still great yeasty, bready flavor.
F: Heavier, fuller, good carbonation.
O: I like this beer. This beer really makes me appreciate German style beers.

Pours a clear, golden yellow with a fizzy white head. Smell is caramel, bread, with a little floral/grassy note to it. Taste is grassy, caramel, brown sugar, bread notes to it. Clean finish, lighter body. I love maibock season, a little sweet and a little hint of beers of summer. This about sums it up, the flavors lean towards sweet but not anywhere near the overpowering pastry stout sweet, just a sweeter lager.

Look: Golden amber color, creamy head
Smell: Grainy, fruity, and bright—there's an almost a matcha-esque sweet floral/grassy character to it. Very interesting.
Taste: Brown sugar, sweet bread, clove, hints of citrus and other fruity notes. Faintly floral hop finish. Well developed but the sweetness is a bit overpowering.
Feel: Medium body, moderate to low carbonation, creamy and smooth

Pretty solid, just somewhat too sweet.

Robust, full golden color. Small off-white head. Very light malty, nutty aroma. Smooth drinker but still lets you know it's there as it goes across the palate. Not bitter. Has some complexity and depth of flavor. Hard to peg a pronounced flavor. Subtle hints of malt, maybe honey, maybe tea, is caramel a stretch?? Well carbonated. A real nice drinker.

Picked this up around March and haven't gotten to it until now. Into a pint glass.
A - Good orange brown honey color with just a 1/4 inch of foam that settles pretty quickly to a lace ring.
S - Toasted grain some honey very little if any hops.
T - Slight bitter hops toasted bread and just a hint of caramel/brown sugar sweetness in the finish. Has a mild bit of bitterness in the finish as well. Tasty and legit.
M - Quite smooth light to medium body easy to drink.

Overall very surprised how good this beer is and still is after 5 month in the bottle. Worth picking up even old!
