From the can, it pours a slightly hazy golden amber color with a modest white head that slowly diminishes and leaves lacing. The nose gets a sweetish almost candy scent. The mouth gets an amose cloying sweet flavored brew with citrus notes.

Poured from a 19.2 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of citrus, tropical fruits. Taste is pineapple, oranges, some alcohol, a bit on the sweet side. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.

I’m surprised this hasn’t been reviewed much yet. The smell is sweet and fruity, some pineapple and pine. The flavor hits initially with pineapple and tropical fruits and then finishes with pine resin and a slightly tart aftertaste. The mouthfeel, for me, is as the name states- juicy with a hint of stickiness. The pleasant amount of carbonation is like a little static on an old AM radio from my childhood (I like heavy carbonation). There is some noticeable bitterness in the finish from the hops, but it’s not overwhelming and I think it balances things out nicely. I used to hate IPA’s and then I grew to appreciate them and their complexity. This is a nice intro into IPA’s for people who may not care for Imperials and I believe that it is worth a try. The 9.5% ABV is not noticeable until you slam the second one and I can appreciate something that is refreshing without a heavy ethanol overtone. Be forewarned that it is sweet- if that’s not your thing then you may not care for this. However, it is a nice divergent from constant bitterness every once in a while. Devil’s Backbone rarely misses and I think that this offering is, once again, proof of the company’s range when it comes to diverse brews. I proudly give this a solid 4 out of 5.
