A: a very deep brown. looks opaque until i hold it up to the light. a big frothy head has good retention and good lacing.
S: woody and nutty. slightly smokey leads to a somewhat bacon-like flavor. an herbal hop aroma is also present. sort of green tea-esque.
T: again the nutty flavor is strong, chestnuts and almonds. an obvious roast as well. moves more to a chocolate flavor. sort of vanilla bean type of flavor works in as well. not as hoppy as the nose, but still good brown flavors.
M: the mouthfeel is slightly slick. carbonated and medium bodied.
D: the hop presence adds a unique complexity to this highly malty brown ale. the slightly slick, oily mouthfeel is my only real complaint. otherwise a super solid brown from db.
