Pours a nice amber with a creamy white head. The aroma is mild, bordering on missing. Just hints of sweetness. The flavor is a little more defined, with mild grain sweetness and a little bit pine hops. The body has a nice weight and smooth finish. I'm not sure if this is the same recipe as their 8 point IPA, but it's seems like that would've been a good place to start.

From notes on 04/14/12:
On-tap; Poured in a Devils Backbone pint glass.

A - Came with a one inch, just off-white, creamy head with good retention; Hazy appearance with an orange hued amber color; Good lacing left in the beginning, but not too much by the end of the glass

S - Pretty unique aroma here that's faintly reminiscent of an IPA and Hefeweizen; Very strong perfume-like notes with some herbal, estery, clove, and piney characteristics

T - Certainly leans much more on the IPA side in the taste, which is no disappointment for me; Solid dose of bitterness from start to finish that lingers; Lots of piney character that matches up well with the bitterness, accompanied by subtle citrus flavor; Herbal, clove, estery, and a touch of spicy flavors are much more in the background, but noticeable

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a somewhat dry finish

O - Labeled as a Wheat IPA, I think this beer succeeds in blending two tasty styles together, and subsequently making it difficult to categorize. The IPA-dominated taste is very satisfying with a pleasant level of bitterness and light weizen-like flavors. However, the aroma is quite a bit different, though in no way unpleasant, with a very balanced blend of hoppy and estery/weizen aromas that come together in a very unique way. Overall, this was a very enjoyable brew and a great one to end my meal on. Hopefully, I can have this one on-tap again for a future rendezvous at Devils Backbone.

On tap at Rustico during the Devil’s Backbone NoVA launch. Served in a taster glass. Pours a nice clear color with a good white head. Fairly foamy with good retention and some spotty lace as it falls to a thin collar. The nose has a bit of zest and floral notes along with some nice citrus. Flavor adds some dry wheat flavor to go along with the hops. I love the combo of wheat and hops, and this does not disappoint. Well done.
