From 64oz growler to nonic pint glass on 5/20/12
*From notes
-- Growler shared with my Pops, which is always a pleasure. --
A: Clean overripe blood orange. A careful pour yields a 1.5 finger white head that lingers for the entire pint. Killer lacing rims the glass.
S: Rather herbal. Lots of mint, some sage and a whole bunch of earthy malt.
T: Plenty of candied hop oil hits up front and really never lets go. Fresh cut spring grass hits on the mid, and it adds to the herbaceous quality I found on the bouquet. It finishes oddly boozy, as the alcohol isn't well placed and sticks out like a sore thumb.
M: Dense stuff. This is well carbonated, complex in the mouth and it's quite silky and smooth.
O: Not the crowning achievement of DB's portfolio, but it's certainly drinkable. If this was readily available, I don't know if I'd reach for this often, but you wouldn't find me turning down a cold one.
PS - Welcome to Northern Virginia, Devil's Backbone! Keep pumping 'em out guys, as I really do love your suds.

On tap at Rustico during the Devil’s Backbone NoVA launch. Served in a taster glass. Pours a clear golden color with a nice white head and good retention. The nose brings some light hay and grain plus some floral and citrus elements. Faint stone-fruit notes in the background. Flavor has a nice hop element; wouldn’t have guessed that this used all German hops. Body is light and dry. Very nice.
