Perhaps it's because I was soaking up the sun, reading The Sheltering Sky, stretching while sipping on this beer that I found it to be warm, soothing, sparky and refreshing. The color was a lovely copper, the taste and smell of banana spice was prominent and the feel was a smooth, creamy carbonated happiness. I'll try again in a different environment for curiosity sake.

A: A reddish amber brown color with a tan head.
S: Rich and malty with a nice bit of earthy hops. Caramel with a touch of grapefruit.
T: Caramel with a bready note, and some pine and earthy hops kicking in a little extra flavor.
M: Medium body, but a bristling carbonation makes it feel lighter.
O: I don't know what a Double Brown India Pale Ale is, but is tastes like a passable American strong ale, or barleywine.

Poured from the tap into a pint glass at the Distillery in Savannah. The appearance is a reddish brown color with a small tan head. The aroma is pine and hops. The taste matches the nose. A nice beer.

Draft at Rustico Alexandria during the NoVA launch. Served in a snifter glass, the beer itself a deep, slightly hazed brown in color with a low off-white head. The nose and palate serve up a dank, resinous pine hop punch, overwhelming a malt base that comes across as sweetness and a touch of earth. Very bitter finish continues the hop dominance. Medium in body with with carbonation on the low side of moderate. Certainly not my favorite from DBB - off balance, with the hops quite overdone.

On tap at Rustico during the Devil’s Backbone NoVA launch. Served in a taster glass. Pours a moderate brown color with a bit of haze. Off-white head and a bit of lacing. The nose brings some dank hops and pine. A bit too much and muddled, getting to the point where it was a bit chemical-like. I didn’t particularly care for the background malt, and always got a fairly good-dose of alcohol. Maybe too much dry hopping? Regardless, was not a big fan of this one, liking Jason’s other beers quite a bit more.
