Calling all hop lovers out there! This Imperial IPA is for you. It’s called Sixteen Point because, well it’s pretty obvious we doubled the hops of our Eight Point IPA, right? Anywho. When you combine five imported malts with loud American hops like Cascade, Bravo, Citra, Columbus, Centennial, and Simcoe you get this honey-colored, full-bodied juggernaut of a beer. Hoppy, resin, and herbal.
Malts: Pilsner, Maris Otter, CaraRed, Torrified Wheat, Carafa II
Hops: Cascade, Bravo, Citra, Columbus, Centennial, Simcoe, Beta Aroma Extract

Poured a translucent burnt copper color from a 12oz can into a Dogfish Head nonic pint glass with a 2 finger high off white head that lingered and left ample spotty lacing. Malts and earthy grain are forward in the aroma with piney hops sitting in the background. Flavor follows the nose with a noticeable bitterness in the finish that hangs on. Mouth is medium bodied with good visible carbonation which give a slight tingle on the tongue. 9.1 ABV is well hidden in the mouth but hits you soon after. A solid brew that' was thoroughly enjoyable.

Poured into a narrow imperial pint glass: color is gold and not transparent but not 'hazy', head is brighter white with fine to small bubbles, head presents one finger thick and remains a solid top with lacing.
Smell is slightly malt forward with toast, light caramel, maybe some toffee, hops are complementing with earth, light citrus, touch of pine.
Taste is similar with malt / hop balance in flavor - notes of caramel, toast, toffee, earth, citrus, pine, light boozy sweetness.
Mouthfeel is moderate carbonation, moderate/strong sweetness, moderate/strong bitterness, some booziness.
Overall a big ipa with a more classic malt forward flavor - a little cloying in the sweetness/bitterness but the malt notes are pleasant diversion from the haze craze.

Resin, piney hops aroma and flavor. Quite bitter. Surprisingly easy drinking considering the high ABV.

L: Opaque burnt orange, creamy lightly tanned head
S: Pine, brown sugar, hints of spice
T: Pine, grassy, floral, earthy hops up front backed with a substantial malt profile--sourdough toast, molasses, & toffee. Notes of lemon pepper. Somewhat boozy.
F: Medium-heavy body, moderate carbonation, warm from the alcohol and creamy
Solid. Well balanced between the hops and malts--doesn't come off too bitter overall

I tried this beer at my bestie's country club, Cabarras, in Concord, North Carolina whilst there for the member-guest golf tounrament. It poured a slight hazy orangish with white head that left some lace. The scent had citrus peel notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with semi sweet malt base with a variety of citrus presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbaonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

Semi clear copper color with two finger head.
Aroma is solid. Piney hops and a bit of citrus. Simple but appealing.
Tastes of oily hops, pine, a bit of orange with some faint buttery malts. Again not super complex but it’s definitely solid and appetizing
Body is a little light but nicely carbonated
Overall it’s comparable to a well made west coast IPA. As a double it’s a bit weak but overall it’s an enjoyable beer

Full disclosure- I am not a huge fan of IPA’s. In fact, I avoid them. But I was camping and was drawn to the 9.1% ABV. Changed my view. There is a heavy pine resin taste up front, with some sweetness and ample malt on the finish. Not dry at all (which I usually prefer) but pleasant on the finish. Devil’s Backbone doesn’t seem to do any wrong and they have convinced me to branch out yet again. This beer is refreshing and floral, a little “woody”, but still has that malt that I crave. I was very surprised about how much I like this! Well worth a try if you aren’t an IPA fan- you may be shocked to find that you are…

Purchased at Wegman's in a variety 12 pack for $16.97:
LOOK: Pours a very clear light amber with a cream colored off white head. Retention is quite good and side glass lace is plentiful. Presents a good looking beer.
AROMA: Dank with pine and citrus and aromatic floral hops. Toasted bread malts are present, and while less than the hops do add a nice balance.
TASTE: Pretty good. Mildly bitter but there is some sweetness. Malts more noticeable in the after taste. The 9.1% ABV is well masked in the aroma and taste but also immediately warming.
I liked this IPA. Glad I made the purchase.

19.2 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 8/19/2022. Pours fairly crystal clear deep golden yellow color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head. Fantastic head retention, thick soapy lacing, and good streaming carbonation on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big red grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, cracker, toast, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass. Light yeast booziness in the aromas as it warms. Large sized pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, woody, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus carbonation and body; balanced bready/grainy malts and sticky/resinous hop mouthfeel. Long resinous drying finish, with mild astringency. Finishes a bit crisp on resins for the 9.1%, light lingering warmth of ABV after the finish. Very spot on classic style west coast. Dominated with Columbus/Centennial/Cascade hops with the Simcoe/Citra in the back. Nice and aggressive, the ABV is felt pretty quickly, but it's really smooth. Very dank and earthy hops with a clean malt backbone. Would buy again.

Clear light amber, nice white head, good retention and lace
Floral, grapefruit aroma, slight toasty malt

Medium bodied and appropriately carbonated
Decent enough
