a darker colored sour aged in a red wine barrel with cherry and pomegranate, something a little different for these guys, and its really very good. the sourness isnt too much, puckery right up front, but its not all acid later on like some of these can be. the wine barrels add a lot, a sort of musky oak and some dried fruity notes that marry beautifully with the piquant cherry profile and the sweet pomegranate, which is less dramatic than either the wine or the cherry, but is still quite obvious in this one. the fruitiness doesnt ever get too sugary due to the richness of flavors in here, not quite cocoa maltiness, but some toasted earthy depth for sure, and some nice body to go with it and balance any extra acidity. some tannins in the feel, robust carbonation, and a long dried fruity finish, less fresh than it tastes earlier on, cherry heavy. really nice combination of flavors and processes here, not something i really knew lift bridge did, but this is excellent for a darker sour with a little more complexity than a lot of the rest of the field. bravo!
