What is this, Black Butte Anniversary circa 2009? Figs & oranges? Lift Bridge has rarely let me down over the years, so I bit on this 750ML bottle. Split with my wife.
Black that fades quickly to dull & lifeless. The nose goes ¾ on the label – malty stout, figs, with a soft kiss of citrus that’s barely perceptible.
Barrel Aged Silhouette – Mission Fig & Orange Brandy Barrel is related to Silhouette by blood, but you couldn’t tell by sucking on them. This is mostly barrel driven – boozy bite, big citrus spray, but the booze isn’t identifiable to my palate as brandy. Mid-palate is indeed figgy with a side of chocolate, & the finish is another blast of alcohol that makes this seem higher more intoxicating than it is. Less full than the base & a half bomber is just fine.
An odd beer that is less than the sum of its purported ingredients – this could have used a jolt of brandy & perhaps something else, it’s too tame for the description. Pretty good brew.
