This reddish/orange brew arrived with a faint aroma of hops and malt. The head dissipated quickly but laced nicely. The Crazy seemed a bit more like red ale and a little lightly hopped for an Imperial. It has very good balance and is really easy going for 8.5%. About half was through; the red ale nose was more noticeable. Great flavor with a slightly tart finish. A really good beer.

A pint at the brewpub. Early dinner on St. Patrick's Day (kids in tow, home by 6:30).

A: The DIPA is a coppery red, translucent with minimal head. The ale sits contentedly in my glass.

S: The hoppiest I've ever encountered at Bube's, citrus to the nth degree. The nose is very vegetal, leafy hops lingering throughout.

T: The hoppiness continues into the taste, leafy and very citrusy. The hoppiness is paired nicely with a caramel malt base, a chewiness that eats into the hops. The 8% strength is evident throughout.

M: The mouthfeel is a syrupy hop hybrid, bitter but well-balanced. The strength of the ale, offset but the sweetness, is noticeable.

O: A decent DIPA, hoppy but well-balanced. Plenty of malts running around.

Served cold in a standard pint.

A - The ale has a copper hue w/ moderate hazing and creamy pale 1/2 inch frothy cap. The head clings to the glass in thick lace rings

S - An intense piney aroma like a fresh cut christmas tree, but a hint of pine-sol aroma creeps in as the alcoholic odors in the nose dominate the hops intermittently. The hops are full in the aroma w/ subtle herbal/floral notes keep the smell interesting - a very heavily hopped nose.

M - Astringency first and foremost w/ an acidic hoppy bitterness that coats the tongue. The malt is dy and the carbonation is a bit high for the style, but the focus of the subtle sappy notes dart in and the feel of strong alcohol is not shy as the astringency continues on

T - The pine flavor from the hops is intense as in the nose like how you can taste a hedge as it is being trimmed by smelling it. The initial bitterness is almost too much -the hops are spicy and lead to a sausage-like flavor w/ minimal malt that has subtle sweet flavors but comes off like lebanon bologna combine with the hops . The taste is peppery and bitter as the tannins of the hops have an almost catty effect w/ chinooks sharply acidic elements. A grape leaf type lemony pith and resinous tongue-blanketing essence w/ a mild grapefruit aftereffect. There are mild fruit notes in the malt and yeast making the hops seem more peppery like very mild chilis near the end of the glass w/ the spice and heat of the alcohol

D - A very tasty IPA if you want to numb the tongue and drench in hop acidity- not much in the way of nuance Just intensity. Acidity and bitterness w/ malt flavor or blend of sweet flavors. The alcohol takes over midway and I tended to just gulp to subjugate the bitterness halfway into the beer. I wish I could say I found this ale drinkable, but I would say just worth a try overall and 1/2 a pint would be the best choice for this beer
