On tap at Bube's on 5/23/11 served in a standard pint glass. This brew appears an amber to mostly orange color with a perfectly polished clarity about it. A thin tan cap of bubbles sits atop and fades leaving a formation of bubbles close to the edge. A swirl releases more bubbles to the surface but fails in creating more than a thin lacing.
The smell of this brew is malty with a scent of caramel accepted with fruity to floral hops. Some medicinal notes are evident before the onset of buttery diacetyl which increases in boldness as the brew warms. By the end of the glass buttery note are nearly all I can smell.
The taste of this brew includes the buttery notes upfront mixed with residual sweetness of caramel malt. It retains a minor amount of fresh grain flavor balanced with alight herbal hops and annoversll medicinal bitterness. The finish is buttery and slick with a semisweet aftertaste that lingers.
This is medium bodied and lightly carbonated. A decent attempt at the style but there are some better ones out there with less buttery notes that I found distracting. It is worth giving a try but once was enough for me.
