Collaboration with Stillwater Artisanal

Nordic Lean in collaboration with Stillwater Artisanal is a Purple IPA that’s been 100% fermented with Brettanomyces c. and dry-hopped with Pacific Gem and Centennial. How did we purp it? A combination of blueberry, blackberry and black currant juices. It’s tangy, hoppy, juicy and funky. This unique beer is beautiful, nice and a little fucked up, just like us.

As it says in its notes/commercial description: "nice and a little fucked up."
Moderate pour yields a 1/2 inch light pink head over a dark pinkish purple body with no lacing. Nose of berries and very slight funk. Taste of slightly tart berries and finishes with more tartness. Overall, an enigmatic collaboration; though after awhile, I'm getting used to it and it's rather good. Cheers!

A: The beer is murky reddish purple in color—too hazy to see if there is any visible carbonation. It poured with a short pink head that quickly settled down, leaving a patch of bubbles covering the surface and a narrow off white collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of Brett funk are present in the nose along with some hints of blackberries.
T: The taste has a bit of sourness and funk but is mostly dominated by flavors of berries and currants.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and slightly crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is tough to categorize and mostly seems like a hybrid between an IPA and a wild ale.

11.2 oz. bottle dated 01/13/17

Pours cloudy hazy opaque purplish dark red with a creamy frothy light pinkish foam head. Smells like pineapple, grapefruit, orange citrus, lemon, blueberry, blackberry, black currants, creamy lactose, tart funky brett, toasty caramelized malt, some spice, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like pineapple, grapefruit, orange citrus, lemon, blueberry, blackberry, black currants, creamy lactose, tart funky brett, toasted caramelized malt, some spice, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium bodied, creamy with moderate low carbonation. Overall a nice fruited brett IPA with lactose.
