Collaboration with Brouwerij Oud Beersel
Once again we are collabing with our good friends at Oud Beersel, this time we wanted to bring some of the Norwegian nature into the beer. Norway is full of fjords and forests, Skogen meaning forest what a better way to do this than to add some fresh Spruce shoots to a farmhouse ale and we have blended it to Young Lambic from Gert, we then aged the whole beer on red Zinfindel barrels for 6 months.

A 330ml can, with a best before date of 1st April 2024. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.
Appearance: A clear golden colour with a one finger white head that had pretty good retention and left some nice lacing.
Aroma: Funky, brett, tart, oak, lemon zest, candy, green apple, with light herbal and floral notes.
Taste: Tart, lightly sour, lemon zest, green apple, vinous rosé, toffee, funk, brett, herbal, and a light floral finish.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied, a little watery, with moderate to soft carbonation.
Overall: It felt a little watery at times for me, but otherwise, it had some interesting aroma and flavours.

Poured from fridge temp at a bottle share in Germany. Look is a nice hazy orange. Smell is grapefruit, lemon, and a bit sour. Taste follows the nose, but with coriander, spruce, and bread. Also some wheat coming through. Overall, a really nice collaboration.

Pours a slightly cloudy deep golden amber coloration with a small, fluffy head. Smells of sweet'ish, bready, caramel malt and floral, freshly cut pine, with some red berries, estery fruit notes and just a hint of oaky tannins as well. Taste is an interesting balance of sweet, bready, caramel malt, freshly cut pine and fruity notes of red berries: strawberry, redcurrant and estery tart green apple and gooseberry, with just a hint of funk and oaky tannins. Finishes with a medium tartness, light bitterness and some pine and red berries lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This is definitely an odd one and I'm not sure how well the combination of sweet malts, bitter pine, tart red berries and fruity esters really works. I would have wished for this to be a little less sweet and more funky, although the pine character from the spruce shoots really comes through nicely, being somewhat different from the typical resinous pine character from West Coast IPAs though. A little more floral, perhaps. All in all this is quite an interesting, unusual brew that's enjoyable enough but doesn't quite come together perfectly in my opinion.

Blend between a young lambic and a saison with spruce aged in red wine barrels.
Wonderfully well balanced, between the funkiness of the lambic and the crisp sensation of the saison.
The mouthfeel is wonderfully silky
