An indulgent almond cake pastry imperial strou in collaboration with Iowa's Pulpit Rock Brewing Company. A blend of barrel aged stouts lays the base of bourbon and oak for a true celebration of toasted almonds, sweet vanilla and the famous Norwegian Kransekake.

Lervig Aktiebryggeri "Almond Cake"
375 ml brown glass bottle capped & waxed, coded "Best Before: 14.03.29" and sampled on 29.11.24
Notes via stream of consciousness: An opaque black body is capped by a short head of dark tan foam. The aroma is sweet with chocolate, and is it possible? Almond! That is an amazing aroma for a dessert beer! The taste is even better but I have to point out that this is a very sweet beer. It's sweet, bready, almondy, chocolate-like, and vanilla-ish. I have no idea how you get the almond flavor into the beer using real almonds but it's perfect. Almonds are also oily, and that probably has a part to play in why the head has dropped so quickly. 12% alcohol by volume could do that as well. This is kind of like an Almond Joy candy bar, but better! It's even a little fruity, and it reminds me somewhat of Port wine. In the mouth it's full bodied and smooth.

Dense black liquid, fizzy got chocolate foam.
Smell is potent. Chocolate, molasses, vanilla, bourbon, almond.
Taste is the same, with quite a lot of sweetness. Very much dessert.
Feel is wonderfully dense. Very good beer, not that much almond though.

Served in a chalice from the bottle.
Appearance: Black body resembling motor oil with a dark tan head maybe 4 or 5mm off the body.
Smell: Light bourbon with heavy molasses on the nose.
Taste: Sweet brown sugar which is crazy overpowering. Hints of espresso bourbon and warm sweet caramel.
Mouth: Sweet finish with a soft carbonation.
Overall: I wish I had the time to put more detailed review bit this brew delivered. Heavy molasses and slight nutty. Worth grabbing if you're ever so lucky. Salud!
