July 2011: Shared bottles at the release, Lervig’s tent at Gladmatfestivalen, Stavanger. Dark brown colour, creamy beige head. Moderate aroma, notes of malts and chocolate. The flavour has strong notes of chocolate malts, also hints of caramel and nuts, but is never too sweet. Balanced by distinct notes of NZ Pacific Gem hops, which, with their blackberry-like character, is an interesting choice for a brown ale. As Betty Brown is very flavourful and has a decent mouthfeel, you’d easily believe it was stronger than it actually is. This is definitely a beer I’ll buy frequently. In Norway, only Nøgne Ø Brown Ale can compete.

Smell: hops and malt faint flowers
Taste: malty with touch of caramel
Feel: full body a little carbonation
Overall: a decent brown ale, not sour or hoppy enough for my taste

Pours a dark brown with a massive frothy head - possibly out of date. Some lacing.
Nose is pleasant with lots of malt, faintly nutty a little toasty.
Palate is nice - quite complex but understated. A little coffee and chocolate at the end.
Mouth is pretty good and the finish is quite long with some lingering bitterness right at the end.
Overall a very well made beer.
Highly recommended for the style.

Dark brown color with huge beige head. Aroma is nutty with fudge and toasted malt. Taste has also toasted malts and nuts with a touch of caramel. Very balanced overall. Slightly sweet at first but finishes with an earthy and nutty bitterness. Medium body with high effervescence. Overall it's a decent, easy drinking brown ale.
