I checked out Great Crescent on a trip to the Hollywood Casino. It is only five or six miles from the casino and easy to find. My buddy and I walked in to what felt like a basement rec room. There was beer hall style seating and tables. The long straight bar was opposite the entrance with the entrance to the brewery to the right of it.
I walked up to the bar with no stools and was greeted by a friendly bartender. I inquired about a flight and she said samples were free. I tried a couple. She encouraged my friend and I to try as much as we wanted since they were free one ounce pours. So I tried them all. They had 8-10 beers on tap. I eventually ordered a pint of the cherry stout since it was not available in cans to go. They also do not fill growlers anymore. Either buy it by the can or pint glass.
We decided to do a tour. It was a standard operation, but I did gain some insight to American barley versus European barley. The tour was $5 and included a logo pint which just happened to cost $5.
After the tour we had lunch. We were curious as to the Portuguese sausage. The bartender said it is rare in the U.S., and the cook was Portuguese. So of course we both ordered it, since we were told she just finished a fresh batch. Linguisa was what it was called. It was interesting. Had a meatloaf texture with some lager chunks in it. It had a smoky flavor. I don't think my buddy liked it much. I thought it was worth the try.
It was a friendly place with a unique meal. They also had a small art display to the left of the bar with pieces for sale. I also liked the old beer can display. I had a nice time. It is a decent brewpub with good people. The beer was decent. I would say the die hard craft beer extremist would not like it, but an average beer fan should appreciate it.
