I tasted this brew on 28.07.2009, the bottle having a "best by" date of 30. des. 2009. Jokull means "glacier".

I poured it into a Straffe Hendrick glass, and the appearence was not what I was expecting. The brew is called Munich Helles style here on BA, but what appeared was something that more resembled a weizen. It was a hazy body with a thin appearence and the straw colour tinged with brown. The head was thin with moderate carbonation.

The smell was quite pleasent; nice mix of pilsner type hoppiness with citrus and a little spice in the background.

It tasted a bit "thin" with subdued sweetness and a little citrus also.

Overall this beer was more like a Belgian style witbier, and not a great one. This was not a bad effort, but I would hope that this beer will develop and improve. They can't have much in the way of local ingredients in Iceland for brewing. And even though there is no doubt that they water they use is fresh and pure, it might not be totally suited to brewing. But what do I know?

The first offering from the youngest microbrewery in Iceland. One is a little wary since the brewerys name is "Mead" (which of course has nothing to to with beer, smells like people who have no knowledge of beer trying to cash in on the treandyness of microbrewing, heck, their brewmaster is a dairy technician with no prior brewing experience nor beer knowledge!)

Well, here goes. Bottle says that the beer is brewed in the German style.

A - Clear golden with one finger head that dissipates quickly.

Sm - Grainy, biscuity smell. Floral hops.

T - Light biscuity malt taste, finishes with a hint of bitterness. Strange soapy taste.

M - Oily mouthfeel and low carbonation

D - This beer is very unfulfilling. Nothing better than your normal macro produced beers.
