I was in Milwaukee for an afternoon & took the opportunity to do what beer hunting I could. One place that I didnt want to miss was the Milwaukee Ale house, & Ill do a full beer fly review in a bit, but suffice to say, dont pass it up.
Anyway, I asked our server what was on cask & I heard him say a Honey Wheat (visions of Linenkugle flashed before me). Not my favorite style, but you dont pass up Cask anything without good reason. When the pint arrived I knew it wasnt just a wheat.
Murky, dark amber, with a fluffy pillowed head of multi-hued tans was placed before me & without even getting my nose with in a foot of it I could smell it. Malt, lemon, yeast, sweet hops all just leapt out of the pint at the nose. A marvelous aroma if ever there was one. The head settles but rather than just form a desperate ring around the glass, it forms a roiling island of foam that is constantly gaining & losing mass with the currents of yeasts.
The taste is dead on, I wish I were better at analogizing the subtle flavors of beer as many other BAs are, because it was all there. Nuts, roast beef, honey, lemon, caramel, fermented fruit, woody tangs, everything. I was just floored by this beer. Well balanced, a sweet fruity start & a smooth bitter hop finish. Ah, Im near tears just remembering it.
I had planned on trying several of the Ale Houses products, but after having started with this one, I couldnt bring myself to drink anything else. If your ever in the area, pray they have this available, because it is truly one of the best beers I have ever had.
