Served a clear golden in color with a white foamy head that subsided to a thin ring around the top of the pint. Aroma consisted of corn and grain with an assertive floral hoppiness to it. Mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with a pleasant crispness. Grain and bready flavor with some sweetness up front. Hop bitterness arrives fairly quickly and provides the dominant flavor characteristic. This beer is dry hopped after primary fermentation which adds to the bitterness, but it's not too bitter. A pleasant fruitiness in flavor reminds the drinker that this is a pale ale and not a lager. Bitterness lingers into the finish and leaves the palate mildy dry.
The Milwauke Ale House's Old Tankard Ale is a recreation from the original Pabst recipe brewed decades ago. I wasn't sure what to expect before ordering a pint of this, but I was very glad that I did. Old Tankard Ale is a throwback that's well crafted and certainly worth a try.
