Pours an amberish color, almost ruby when held up to light. Very pretty looking beer.
Aroma is reminiscent of some old ales: some dark fruits, crackery malt, a faint woodiness, but the smell isn't nearly as nice as the appearance.
This beer is described as a "generously hopped strong ale," and here they are! There is a good amount of piney hop flavor from start to finish, with the malty strong ale flavors lingering behind. Strange how i detected almost no hope in the aroma.
Personally, i love the mouthfeel of this beer. There is a sufficiently high amount of carbonation, which makes the hops stand out even more. I would say the body is about a medium as far as thickness goes. It has a little heft to it, but not too much to stop this beer from being as refreshing as it is. This beer will sneak up on you too, there is almost no booziness accompanying the 8% abv.
