Not the beer I expected. I wouldn’t have picked it up if I knew it was going to be a spiced ale. I was thinking big and malty got big, malty and spiced. Winter warmer should not be a spice beer by default, imo. Still, this is one of the nicest spiced beers I’ve had. The initial taste is caramel, which yields to orange, which in turn gives way to cinnamon. If you don’t like spice in beer, stay away, because you won’t be able to ignore it here. Still, it is what I would look for in a spiced holiday ale. The spice here reminds me of Fezziwig, which I haven’t had for a long time. Only the holidays were two months ago. Silly me - it’s February so I should look for maibock to be marketed now. Or Oktoberfest.

Poured into a pokal (cause why not). Caramel brown. Offwhite head that disappears soon after pour.
Lots of caramel on the nose.
Taste follows. Caramel malt, a little brown sugar and seasonal spice (faint nutmeg, cinnamon). Roasted bite on the finish.
Medium body. Has a fullness to it, and good carbonation. Almost chewy.
This one was a surprise. A well balanced winter ale, sweet & strong. Strong recommend for fans of the style.

Bottle poured into pint glass. Carmel brown with just over half inch of thick beige head. Initial sip cinnamon comes through and subsequent don't really notice it. Slight sweet (carmel) and balanced with a roasted malt flavor. Pleasantly surprised - thought this would be a disappointment/gimmick beer. A new favorite.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours red with a hint of orange and a small off white head. Smells of sweet spices, slight cinnamon, very inviting. Tastes of malty grain with sweet spices. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.
