Old Rogue Pale Ale

Appearance: Clear copper body, moderate carbonation, below average retention on the 1/2" of white head that quickly fades to patchy lace.

Smell: A nice blend of sweet citrus from the hops and sweet carmel and residual sugar from the malts.

Taste: This has a really nice orange-carmel taste, sweet without being too much. I like the floral hop smell and the real hop flavor in the finish. It's not overly bitter like some pale ales, and it stays within the boundaries to make a really nice session beer. Easily the best of their regulars.

Mouthfeel: This is nice and creamy, for a PA. I really enjoyed the flavors and this beer was nicely balanced, very easygoing.

Drinkability: I liked this one better than the other beers on the menu. I was surprised in fact, as I sort of expected another run of the mill pale ale. I could have happily supped this all evening. Overall, the year-round choices seemed a bit dumbed down but the seasonals were nice showcasing a biere d'garde and a baltic porter.

Another good one from McKenzies! Dark gold with a small off-white head. The aroma is filled with herbal/weedy hops and nice biscuit-like malts. The taste is hoppy up front with a nice hemp flavor in the middle and a slightly dry finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and spot on and the drinkability is good as well. Another damn good brew from the dude!

Sampled on tap at the brewpub, this pale ale has a very clear deep gold almost copper color with a soft, big-bubbled head. Aroma is peppery hops and sweet fruit with perhaps a hint of honey. In the mouth, this has a nice round resiny/herbal hop presence which is balanced comfortably by some caramel flavored malts. Finishes somewhat dry with peppery hops and a nice lingering bitterness. I found this to be a solid pale ale - easydrinking and agreeable, but unspectacular.

A clear, golden-amber body rests beneath a frothy head of bright white foam that holds well and leaves thin splashes of lace throughout the glass. Bold, floral and citrusy hops dominate the nose! It's very inviting - clearly some cascades are at play here! The body is medium with a very fine, median carbonation that leaves it crisp in the mouth. The flavor starts with citrusy hops over a biscuity, lightly caramel-touched malt, before its brash bitterness rises (still just 32 IBU's). Some more hop flavor becomes apparent as it crosses the palate; and it finishes dry with a gently lingering bitterness that's not overdone. Well balanced, refreshing, and enjoyable! Quite a drinkable pint!
