Served to me black with ruby highlights. The white head soon descends to small patches. Some lacing is left.
The smell is of roasted grain and a hint of smokiness. Only a hint of lactose comes through.
The taste is of sweet malt with a smoky character. The lactose is just hinted at. Roasted grain keeps the sweetness in check. The flavor is basic, but nice. It has a clean finish.
The feel is a bit thin, but smooth. Could use a bit more body.
It's easy to drink. It has a nice flavor, not as sweet or milky as expected, but a good smoky moderate sweetness and easy drinkability makes it a decent brew.
Let this one warm a bit -- It's served much too cold.
I had this in a growler the following day and the lactose was more evident and the smokiness more moderated. In fact, a bit better from growler the next day - possibly because of serving temperature. Still in all, wouldn't affect my scoring.
