Årslev Engsø 23/7 2020. 50 cl bottle from Kvickly, Søtorvet, Silkeborg. Bøllingesø Brewery’s usual design in purple.
Pours opaque dark brown with medium-sized off-white head. Settles as thin layer of foam just covering the surface of the beer. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is fairly intense with a strong sweetness mingling with sourish notes. Brown sugar, dark malts, dark chocolate. Sour grains. Looming alcohol.
Light carbonation. Medium thick, soft, almost flat texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a strong sweetness followed by a moderately strong bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with a sweet undercurrent. Lingers for a while. Finish is semi-dry with a touch of alcohol.
Nice stout with a reasonable balance between sweetness and bitterness. And quite cute that they quote the definition of Stout from Wikipedia.
