650ml bottle (2019 edition) - a grand brew to crack open on the first day of Spring this year.

This beer pours a murky, dark amber-highlighted brown colour, with three fingers of puffy, rocky, and somewhat bubbly beige head, which leaves some decent awkward honeycombed pattern lace around the glass as it evenly fades away.

It smells of boozy Bourbon wood, bready and doughy caramel malt, bittersweet cocoa powder, some free-range ashiness, a bit of baked red apple, cafe-au-lait, and very tame earthy, musty, and floral green hops. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, a lesser toffee sweetness, medium chocolate wafers, faint wet char, vanilla-forward American whiskey notes, day-old coffee grounds, and more well-understated leafy, musty, and herbal hoppiness.

The carbonation is average in its palate-satiating frothiness, the body a solid middle-heavy weight, and fairly smooth, once one gets accustomed to the sneaky heat that is murmouring under the surface here. It finishes off-dry, the malt, saucy woodiness, and chocolate all glad-handing each other as the stars of the lingering after-party.

Overall - this comes across as a pleasant enough beast of an offering, as it's actually pretty easy to sip on, given the fairly well integrated 11 points of the ol' wowee sauce inside the proverbial box. A suitable salute to all the snowbanks gasping their last in my sun-dappled back yard.
