Brassin Batch 69 "Experimental Acid Beer"
750 ml brown glass bottle, no apparent freshness date
!10.99 Canadian @ Capsules Biere - L'Axe du Malt, 601 rue d'Aiguillon, Quebec
Appearance: Very hazy chestnut brown body beneath a frothy off-white head. Retention is very good, bolstered by rising bubbles from beneath. Lacing is OK.
Aroma: Dark skinned fruit in the nose - sweetish, but not sweet. Golden caramel. Some phenols. Hint of alcohol. Brettanomyces: wet leather, metallic, some barnyard.
Taste: Flavor is similar to the aroma but much fuller, adding a cherry and strawberry-like fruitiness, a solid tartness, more funkiness (leather, wet hay, oak), and more alcohol. It's tart and clearly acidic in the throat. It's balanced, if you can say that about a brightly sour beer.
Mouthfeel: Medium to medium-light in body. The carbonation softens quickly leaving it gently bristling. The acidity livens the tongue.
Overall: Very much like an aggressive oud bruin. Really well done. Absolutely worth trying, especially if your a fan of the style. Now, off to the store to find more!!!
