My 200th review!
Picked this up mid-July directly at the brewpub. 2010 vintage with batch # 10030009. Label describes it as a chipotle chocolate porter. Shared with my wife last night.
Poured from a 500ml. bottle.
Appearance: As soon as i pop the cap, foam starts gushing out. Luckily there was a bowl next to me so the loss was minimal. Definitely knocking off points for that. The head in the glass is a dark tan and lasts pretty good atop a seemingly black head that is actually an opaque brown when held to the light.
Smell: Definite spiciness from the chipotle mixed with some smokiness. A bit of dark cocoa but it really is the pepper that shines.
Taste: The flavor favors more the chocolate now whereas the jalapeno is at the tail end though it does last well after the sip. Nothing else really in the flavor.
Mouthfeel: Very low carbonation surprisingly enough. Smooth though the body could use some work. Not full enough IMO.
Drinkability: Good but i'm glad i split it with my wife. I might seek it out again.
Overall: I like the taste but found it lacked depth though it is a bit hard to fault a beer that comes as advertised. A novelty beer that barely overcomes. Certainly different and worth a shot.
