eh, just a so so, amber/stout - looks nice, a bit of head, smell is pretty dull, a bit of nuts but no cocoa or noticable toasty malts. lacing throughout hits of oatmeal bitterness in the taste, again some nuts...borders on being interesting but doesn't quite hit it, almost like a guinness with some oatmeal flavors.
Overall its just an ok amber/stout - wouldn't get it again.

Cask at The Muckle Cross, Elgin, Scotland. Dark amber almost brown in appearance. Has nice thick, creamy tan head. Nothing much in the aroma department..some malts. Creamy malty taste, slight hint of hops in the end. Mouthfeel was smooth and nice because of it being in cask. I suppose this is drinkable but a tad wearisome.

On cask at the local wetherspoons
Appearance: deep rusty amber with 2 finger creamy head, little beading through the body, lots of creamy brussels lace down the glass.
Aroma: roasted malts with a sweet notes, not any hops here or fruit notes
Taste: straight forward roasted sweet malt flavour with a slight fruity note that lingers quietly in the background, finish is very smooth, with a short lingering malt aftertaste, no bitterness really at all.
Mouthfeel: low carbonation, creamy smooth
Drinkability: pretty standard scottish ale, could drink sessionably quite easibly but would be looking for something with more character after a couple. Average!

I hope this is the same beer bottle said double dark ale. poured reddish brown with a small tan head. aroma choc. covered cherries, molasses, honey, dark berries, a nice sweetness. flavor molasses, honey, choc. jump right out in front than got hints of raspberries, blueberries and coffee. a little on the watery side but over all a good beer.

On cask at the Counting House, George Square, Glasgow.
Appearance: deep amber (surprise!), one finger of head that lingered all the way to the bottom of the glass, not so much lacing as a wall of foam down the glass
Aroma: sweet malts
Taste: malty, not too complex, with a slight lingering finish
Mouthfeel: smooth and moderately heavy
Drinkability: this is a slightly better than the average ale but not by much, better than most of the others on tap, but there were better offerings on cask though

On cask
Pours with a dark amber body, slight whiff of a head but doesnt stay around long, some carbonation but faint
Smell, hints of dried fruit, strong fruity esters, slight malt sweetness
Taste, slight hop profile, dried fruit, slight hint of phenols, very little on the finish
Not a bad scottish ale, but a bit light overall

Not as dark as the name implies. Surprisingly mellow for its weight, with a subdued, fruity hops and mildly bitter, clean finish.
