A 500ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2014, so it's a bit out of date. Acquired a while back from a bargain store. Brewed in support of the Bill McLaren foundation (the voice of rugby apparently).
A: Poured into a straight pint glass. A clear brownish-amber colour with intense carbonation. Forms a large head of creamy white foam with good retention; this steadily reduces to a thick surface layer. Lovely lacing.
S: Aroma of indistinct caramel malt with hints of ale yeast, stewed leaves, faint toasted grain and a twinge of cardboard. Dull.
T: Tastes of caramel malt with a lingering dry finish. Notes of fruity ale yeast, faint grass/hay, stewed leaves, a hint of toasted grain and a touch of cardboard in the background. Very slightly sweet, followed by a subdued, leafy bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with prickly carbonation and average body. Mildly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of harsh stewed leaves/cardboard, ale yeast and faint malt.
O: Boring brown beer - perfectly average. Looks OK, with a nice head, while the aroma and flavour are bland and uninteresting. Stewed leaves, ale yeast and husky malt fail to titillate the senses. So-so body. Not much going for it; no need to seek it out.
