A 500ml bottle with a BB of March 2018. Acquired a little while back from Home Bargains. The label describes it as an 80/- shilling ale originally designed for export.
A: Poured into a pint mug. A deep brownish-amber colour with good clarity and plentiful carbonation. Produces a huge head of creamy off-white foam with good retention; this slowly reduces to a persistent surface layer. Lovely lacing.
S: Aroma of grainy malt with hints of biscuits, mild caramel, barley sugar, ale yeast, a vague fruitiness and faint stewed leaves. Decent enough.
T: Tastes of sweet grainy malt with notes of caramel, biscuits, barley sugar, ale yeast, subtle earthiness and faint stewed leaves. Slightly sweet, followed by a mild leafy bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with lively carbonation and good body for the style. Improves as the fizziness dies down. Aftertaste of grainy malt, caramel, biscuits, ale yeast and mild stewed leaves.
O: Traditional but pleasant enough. Looks the part, while the aroma and flavour are focussed on biscuity malt and ale yeast. Decent body. Drinkable and slightly moreish, though not a brew that needs to be hunted down.

Dark brown, clear with a good frothy head.
Very malty aroma.
Light malty flavour with some hop. Reasonably well balanced.
Somewhat watery.
Not much of an 80/- brew.

Bottled
McEwan's 80/- rebadged & extra hopped
Rusty reddish body off white head with nearly full coverage
Copper, candy floss & grain on the aroma
The flavour or lack imagine a fruit tea that's beer flavoured & served cool in a cup that hasn't been rinsed properly of soap that is what the stewed under powered hops do
it's solid on mf
this is not a step forward
