Tasted this beer at the Birkbeck Tavern, in NE London nr. Leyton last week. According to the bar-maid, this beer, named after the landlady and the only regular beer at the pub in addition to three rotating guest beers, is supplied by the Courage brewery, but not sure if it's the based on Courage Best Bitter or something else~~
A: pours a clear amber hue, with a thin, creamy head which leaves very tight lacing along the way; very low carbonation and ideal temperature for cask ale.
S: Fuggle-hop aroma-dominated--raw, hayish, almost a bit stinky is the word! but smells very fresh indeed.
T: very deeply earthy hop flavour, like Fuggles, upfront on the palate, backed by good depth of pale malts, which turns slightly nutty with a slightly conflicting malty mouthfeel; the mouthfeel is quite spicy, and ever so dryish, like a cup of good ooh-long tea with the tannic edge.
M&D: very refreshing and lively on the palate, while the texture does turn smoother and settled towards the end of tasting. A good session bitter with a moderate flavour and nice bitterness arousing more and more thirst.
