Aug. 2007: Cask conditioned at The Guildford Arms, Edinburgh. Golden colour. Hoppy aroma with notes of malt vinegar. Flavour a little above average, with moderate hops.

Two hand-pulled pints in 'The Barley', a modern refurbished pub in Newport, Shropshire on 27 Apr 2013.

Light golden body with an off-white head which started off thin and got thinner by the second.

No huge aroma: a blend of biscuity malts and floral hops almost cancelled each other out.

The taste was fairly bland I'm afraid: some malt semi-sweetness and a hop content that tried to add some bitterness, but overall it didn't do it for me, even though I had two pints, just to make sure. Mildly citrus towards the end of each sip, but nothing strong or robust about the beer at all.

Mid-bodied and OK as a session beer I suppose, just lacked the umph I'd have liked.

Tasted recently by a half pint at the Museum Tavern, London. Served by a handpump w/o a sparkler.

A: bright pale golden hue, coming with low fizziness and a creamy off-white froth with decent retention.
S: cream, floral, lightly lemony and a tad grassy in the overall aromatic hoppyness. Sweet pale malts with a touch of butter also stay at the back, true to the style of English pale ale.
T: a buttery flavour comes first, ensued by lightly sour-sweet lemon zests and second-tier floral flavourÂ… intensifying bitterness of zesty hops with a touch of limey taste soon follows, until finishing with a slightly dryish hoppy touch.
M&D: due to the freshness issue with this cask, I believe, it's slightly too light in body and slightly thin on the texture, but somehow these are saved by the mild zestiness which prevents the beer from tasting stale or boring. Overall, if this beer was better on form, then I should say it'd be a delicious thirst-quencher, as its sister-product, Deuchars, consistently is.

The new Pale ale from the Caledonian Brewery served by the pint in the Guildford Arms - Edinburgh

A- Golden colour with lively beading throughout. 1 finger head that is constant throughout. Moderate Lacing

S- Sweet malts, some pale ale characteristics - citric fruits and some sort of floral note - elderflower or something.

T- Well balanced i must say between the sweet malt, citric notes finishing in a moreish hoppy way. lots of character and the hoppiness stays well in the aftertaste.

M- Low carbonation, smooth, creamy, standard PA

D- pretty standard PA, would probably pick Deuchars IPA before this though as i prefer the less hoppy ales. Nice offering.
