March 2010 guest ale from the Caledonian Brewery
Here is the description from the website;
Ale above board with this epic Export IPA
Burnished, copper appearance, full-bodied and heavily hoppedto give a zesty character with a long pleasant aftertaste. Subtle seductive malt flavour, with hints of caramel and roast. Brewed to the traditional export IPA style, to survive the long sea voyage to the colonies.
Hops: Styrian Golding and Super Styrian
Malt: Golden Promise, Optic, Crystal and Black
A- Oddly for an IPA, a dark copper/orange body with a nice 2 finger head that has average retention. Good lacing.
S- Roasted/sweet toffee malts. A floral background there, very fresh.
T- A good sweet bitter balance in this one. Very refreshing with the hop bite in the finish, just as an IPA should be. Still light and delicate without overdoing the hops.
M- Light/ medium, low carbonation. Refreshing.
D- Sessionable ale, malt notes going well with a steak pie! A good refreshing hop profile, may this a nice example of the style.
