Like the famous drink of legend, this Old Fashioned Stout leads with bourbon notes threaded through with deep cherry sweetness. A subtle bitter orange peel finish balances the smooth, roasty, imperial oatmeal stout, as if to remind you this is beer, not a cocktail... or is it the best of both?

Empyrean Old Fashioned BBA Imperial Stout, 8.5% ABV. Pours black with a one-finger brown head that left no lacing. Aroma is orange and cherry. Taste is zest and cherry, no bourbon noted, no sweetness, slight bitterness. OK mouthfeel, overall very good. Underwhelmed.

I was really looking for something a little deeper here, but as a English Stout that is Barrel aged I think this fills the bill as labeled. Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Mason jar showed a small head with good lace, taste was mostly barrel age brew...not much Stout as I know it....still a nice brew.
