Picked up a growler last weekend from the source.
Appearance: Deep amber red glass holds a tight bubbled off white head that leaves soapy spots of lace.
Smell: The sweet malts are almost sticky, with the heady alcoholic hop oil infused vapors drifting slowly from it.
Taste: Classic boulder balance of 1 ton fresh west coast C hops, and 1 ton of malt, a generous portion of it pulled from sugary Crystal malts. The skillful combination is testament to the brewers' skill. Clean, the balance lets a bit of the yeast show through, a doughy note that gives a heartiness to the flavor.
Mouthfeel: Tiny bubbles give a slightly gravely feel to the rich heavy bodied beer. A bit oily, lasting.
Overall: Pricey growler, but obviously they put the money into the ingredients. High quality well executed West coast style, Texan born IPA. Freetail continues to make some of the best beer in Texas. My favorite reason to visit San Tonio.
