i had way higher hopes for this, and frankly, i was let down by it. passion fruit, mango, guava, and hibiscus in a berliner, it sounds excellent, and i was really excited to finally crack into it, but the beer is only mediocre. for one, the base beer seems too malty and heavy for the delicate fruits, they are overwhelmed by the maltiness of this, its weird, why is a berliner built like this? secondly, the sourness is weird too, its only tart, not puckery really at all, and without the acidity that i think would make the fruit pop. its not real clean either, seems sloppy and not all the way done, and then there is an almost belgian estery thing happening with the yeast thats also somewhat more prominent than the fruit, which i think is to its detriment. this either needs to be lighter or more sour, but as it is, its sort of stagnant and i think thats the wrong vibe for these tropical favors. the fruits seem all muddled together, there seems like too much hibiscus here too, and i just couldnt get into this one. my company liked it, but for me it was forgettable. the hit or miss nature of freetail beer in my experience continues...
