this is a little maltier than expected, amber in color and a little richer and more dense than i am used to in the style, and really because of all the grain, its not that crisp in the end, the unique fermentation profile of the style is not as evident, and for me at least, the beer isnt as drinkable as i want a beer in this style to be. reddish and hazy frosted looking in the glass with a short off white head. the aroma is a little bit sweet, nutty, and baked to me, with an obvious heft about it. the yeast tastes a little estery too, which is odd in one of these, not sure they have this as dialed in as a lot of the other beers they are making here. i like the grain depth in terms of taste, more going on than normal, hearty, autumnal, bready even. subtle red apple and brown sugar notes to it, almost a biere de garde complexion, fine but not one of their better beers overall. after checking out both their spots in san antonio and drinking a ton of their beers the last two days, this is one of their weaker efforts in my opinion...
