a really yummy stout here, basic as it is, its nice to drink traditionally styled beer sometimes, not everything needs to be crazy ambitious and feature weird ingredients. this is matte black, with deep tan foam, frothy but short, pretty in the glass. aroma has a lot of roast but its not all bitterness and char, there must be some oatmeal in here too, cerealy and dry, with a cool dark chocolate character, a lightly bready yeast strain too, definitely not irrelevant here. the flavor matches the aroma, lots of roast but minimal bitterness compared to most of its peers, smooth and almost creamy feeling, but without hardly any middle sweetness, which is really cool, so its dry and drinkable, doesnt linger too long, and probably was designed to be a dark beer that would work well in warm texas weather. i like the texture, its not overly full bodied but feels rich and smooth, again likely owing to some oats in the mash. a light raisin note, a tiny little bit of almost coffee acidity before the finish, and just enough carbonation. flavorful and good, a simple but well made example of the style. definitely a pint beer.
