i have only had a few of these so far, the sierra nevada project for fire relief if i have the story right, pretty epic that so many breweries around the country got involved. its a big sturdy ipa with a huge malt backing, definitely a west coasty, old school, and very sierra nevada recipe, and i think freetail has executed it as well as anyone so far in my limited experience. there is some malt richness, but the beer isnt sweet, and its plenty oily and bitter, still fresh although i think these were all made months ago now, and with a classic northwestern hop profile, pine first, with some bitter citrus character. tons of body, it heavies as it warms, but i dont mind that in the style. a longer cooked grain complexion, but its all in the first half, the yeast is essentially flavorless, but was obviously quite proficient in its work. the beer is enjoyable, but its more the story of the national beer community coming together for this cause, and the creativity of sierra nevada for launching this campaign that make me like the beer the most. such a cool story and idea, and good on freetail for participating!
