a malty red beer with a high frequency belgian yeast, really estery almost phenolic of chemical forward to me, and by far and away my least favorite beer i had from freetail over the course of the week last week, and we visited both locations and had a whole bunch of their stuff. it looks red and hazy, murky even, not quite a belgian dark, but like a belgian red or something, really unrefined and without the big airy head i like on my belgian beer. it smells off on the fermentation, like it was just allowed to go way too warm. things like lemon pledge and aluminum and astringent rotting fruit come out, some white wine too, and a lot of sweetness from the grain. this just seems really disjointed, confused, and amateur, which is the exact opposite impression i got from almost all of their other stuff. not really even sure what they were going for with this one, but its a miss through and through. the belgian yeast is way off for me, and this was on the edge of undrinkable. they cant all be winners. pick literally anything else on their beer list...
