A piney bitter imposing American stout more than the type I prefer, it's nicely roasty at times, with some notes of chocolate, and sweet bread, but it's too sharp.

A- Pours jet black with a tan head that thins out fairly quickly but sticks around to the very end with trails of lace all the way down.
S- Heavy levels of roast with some Belgian-ey esters and phenols coming through on the nose. Hop aroma fights its way through and makes itself barely evident.
T- Heavy on the roast which gives it a dry astringency. Hop bitterness makes itself apparent but without any accompanying hop flavor.
M- Dry but with a nice carbonation tickle on the roof of my mouth
D- The level of roastiness and astringency makes it difficult for me to drink more than one, but I enjoyed the one I did have.

A - Pours up jet black with a tan/brown head that falls quickly to a small array of tan bubbles. Light lacing on the glass as it is consumed.
S - Notes of Chocolate, vanilla, roast malt and alcohol
T - Roast malt dominates the flavor, with chocolate notes, some creamy sweetness with some hop bitterness in the finish.
M - Silky smooth full mouthfeel.
D - The alcohol and roastiness make this a little hard to drink, but I like this stout.

An American Stout brewed with Belgian yeast, interesting. Pours a close-to-black color, some brown edges around the glass. The pint glass was brought to me filled too close to the rim for any kind of head scrutiny.
Smell is slightly roasty, but mostly a dark chocolate and bready yeast aroma. Whipped cream and a bit of vanilla creep in there as well. Its a good smelling brew.
Definitely a hybrid stout, as sweet lactose flavors combine with a fair amount of piney hoppiness and a bit of yeastiness. Has a roasty component to it as well. Think Ommegang's Chocolate Indulgence mixed with a Bear Republic's Black Bear Stout. It is interesting, but I think I prefer my stouts a bit smoother without a rough hop (maybe high AA variety?) presence. I would order it again though, pretty cool experiment.
